American YC Event details: yachtscoring/com/emenu.cfm?eID=6108 KEN HOOVER MEMORIAL REGATTA TAKES OVER KING HARBORKing Harbor Yacht Club played host this past weekend to the final event of the Carrie Opti Series youth sailing competition, wrapping up the annual sailing year. The Carrie Series of regattas, including stops in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Del Rey (Marina Del Rey), Cabrillo Beach, Morro Bay and finally King Harbor, pits rookie sailors on one race course inside the breakwater, and the “champion fleet” who participates in the global International Optimist competition. Optimists are 8-foot, single sail race boats piloted by a single child racer, age 8-15. Optimists represent the largest one-design competition in the world, with racers from the tops of this fleet graduating to be the best high school, university, and Olympic sailors in the world. This weekend’s action found Katharine Doble (California Yacht Club) securing the weekend win to collect both the Ken Hoover Memorial trophy as well as the Carrie Series overall championship. The race action entertained family members and local passers-by alike. When asked what advice she would give to Southern California families who are interested in getting their kids involved in sailing, King Harbor Youth Foundation head coach, Abby Featherstone encouraged: “Every kid can get involved in sailing, and almost all start with taking a summer sailing program like we have at King Harbor Youth Foundation. We sail out of the King Harbor Yacht Club facilities, but kids and their families don’t have to be members to enjoy access to summer sailing or the KHYF Opti Race Team.” April 2018 NEWS Congratulations to the RHP (ROLLING HILLS PREP) Team for finishing in 1st Place at this weekend’s PCISA Silver Fleet PCC’s at Encinal Yacht Club! THE TEAM displayed great sailing this weekend and were rewarded with the championship. Thank you to Coach Annie for your support this weekend and Coach Abby for getting the team ready for the event. 🎉🏆⛵️😎☀️🥇
