Director: Roger O'Connor
Head Coach: Kate Riley
Instructors: Richard van der Weyde, Parker Johnson, Kayla Spalding
About
Roger grew up sailing, competing for Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club on their junior race teams. He got an early jump on racing keel boats doing foredeck at many west coast events and skippering more local events such as SB to KH, Long Point, Long Beach Race Week, Cal Race Week and Yachting Cup. He started his HS sailing team, Palos Verdes HS, his freshman year with two other classmates. Heading down to San Diego for San Diego State University his personal sailing took a little of a back seat, but stayed active with a few boats practicing and sparring with SDYC teams, helping with North Sails sail development practices for Worlds in multiple fleets. Eventually returning back to LA he was recruited to coach for the University of Southern California. While there USC won their Conference Match Race Championships in 2016, went to Women's Dinghy College Nationals 3 years in a row and Men's Single-handed Championship once. He also got a chance to coach his old HS sailing team, who at the start was a few places out from qualifying for HS coed dinghy Nationals into claiming a National's berth at the final event. Setting a new top overall ranking for Palos Verdes High School.
