Sailing is a special interest, if not a passion, that lasts a lifetime and offers a community that is supportive and fun. King Harbor Youth Foundation was created by the desire to offer all children the opportunity to sail so you do not need to be a member of the King Harbor Yacht Club to participate. Our sailing program has taught hundreds of children over the years and we have watched these sailors grow up to be independent, responsible and confident leaders. In addition to learning how to sail, your child will learn the importance of teamwork, communication and self-sufficiency. Even better, you can invite your friends to sail with you and enjoy the calm waters inside the King Harbor Marina together!

Throughout the Fall, we will have After School Sailing on Fridays for returning sailors in ploptis. This will allow more sailors to get on the water all year! These sessions will follow our Opti Beginner or Intermediate curriculum.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LEARN TO SAIL CLASSES
These Opti Sailing classes are intended for children aged 7-12. Classes are taught in groups and include classroom and on-the-water instruction. Children sail solo in the 8' dinghy boat and learn the basics so they gain confidence sailing and understand how to reach a windward destination. Opti sailing is the best way for children to learn how to sail and possibly race in the future. Please keep in mind that first-time sailors must pass a swim test on the first day to ensure their safety on the water.
