HELLO TEAM !
The county restrictions for youth team sports are lightening up and we can start back up! Our sailor safety remains our priority. We will make sure to be compliant with guidance and protocols from the County and yacht club approval.
We are doing something a little different for this spring season. We have had to break up our program format into 4 week sessions. With the start of our practice being halfway of an ongoing session (session 3) it has been priced as such. We are also offering two options of participation first being Mondays and Wednesdays each week and then a Wednesday only each week. We are no longer required to assign specific pairs, but intend to do so as much as possible.
Practices will be Monday and Wednesday 4-7. The reason for the later time is to space out from the Opti practices going on those days. Daylight saving will have happened by then so daylight will not be an issue.
What to expect:
-parents of sailors will need to sign an online program waiver.
-sailors will check-in each day for a symptom screen and temperature check
-social distancing whenever possible and masks will need to be worn while on the docks and premise
We will continue to send updates as we receive more information, but we are excited to get back on the water.

PROGRAM INFO:

The objective of Double Handed sailing is to practice and race , with an emphasis on advanced skills and high intensity training in the Collegiate FJ class. With the opportunity to practice on a consistent basis, students will have the ability to improve rapidly, and prepare for future sailing in college and elsewhere. Practices will be geared predominantly towards racing, but may include training of new crews and team members, when necessary.

Be Prepared. Have The Right Gear.
Below are some helpful guides to acquiring the right gear for your sailor. The value in terms of safety and success when wearing the correct gear is big.
Team Rules Regarding Gear:
1. Life Jackets must be Coast Guard Approved
2. Closed toed shoes must be worn at all times
3. Warm fleece
3. Sunscreen
4. Mask or gaitor
5. Bag that fits your stuff. Mark your belonging clearly.
The Coach has the ability to deem a sailors gear unacceptable for sailing and not let them on the water until they have appropriate gear for the given conditions.
"Hope for nice comfortable weather, prepare for the worse"
Doublehanded sailing is year-round ; in the winter that can mean cold wind and low water temperatures.
Check out the gear guide for a general idea of what is suggested for sailors at practice and to compete in regattas in comfort .
Purchasing Gear It's an investment - start with the essentials, go from there. There are many cost-effective ways to acquire the appropriate gear. We've provided some resources below, but know that simply asking team members and "seasoned" parents can also be a great way to get ideas, and buy used gear.
Essentials When purchasing sailing gear it can be overwhelming - there are a lot of components and it can add up. Focus on acquiring the essentials and then invest in additional items from there.
Essentials (1st week of sailing):
..Once you're serious, the right gear makes the difference. You and your sailor(s) will want to start investing in sailing specific gear as they become more committed to the sport so they are more comfortable and have more appropriate gear. See below some examples of specific sailing gear you'll want once you are serious.
