FALL Sailing Registration now open!!
This class is for sailors with limited to intermediate sailing experience who enjoy on-the-water fun without competitive racing. The focus of the class will be to prepare sailors for a lifetime of sailing and seamanship. You will experience something new on the water and the need-to-know sailing basics are covered in this class along with skills and tactics that will advance them to the next level, while still having fun! Skills to be taught include, but are not limited to:
weather and safety, how to operate a boat safely and confidently, wind awareness and direction, basic parts of the boat and controls, launching, retrieving and docking, know tying, rigging and sailing terminology. You sail in FJ boats or Optis, depending on your size and age.
All sailors must know how to swim and bring their own life jacket. We recommend that they bring sun screen, sunglasses, hat or visor, and closed-toed shoes. It is also a good idea to bring a change of clothes and towel.
The King Harbor Youth Foundation is committed to giving children access to sailing. With funds from the California Division of Boating and Waterways and the Bob Hood Scholarship Fund, we are able to provide scholarships to ensure that all children have the opportunity to Learn how to sail.
