Adult Beginning sailing Courses

Session 1:  Mondays, 12:00 to 3:00.  May 13, 20, June 3, 10.  NO CLASS ON MAY 27 DUE TO MEMORIAL DAY


Session 2:  Mondays, 5:00 to 8:00.   May 13, 20, June 3, 10.  NO CLASS ON MAY 27 DUE TO MEMORIAL DAY


For those with little or no sailing experience Classes will be held on a Martin 242 and taught by Brian Angel.  Brian is a long time coach and sailing director for King Harbor Youth Foundation.  Brian has extensive national and international racing experience and has been internationally ranked on the match racing circuit, the same format used in the America’s Cup.    Instruction will take place in the classroom and on-the-water and will include sailing theory, boat handling, including crew and skipper positions, leaving and returning to a dock, water safety and, if class progress allows, will introduce using a spinnaker.

Beginner Keelboat Sailing

A basic keelboat course emphasizing beginner sailing skills in a keelboat setting. Students will spend roughly 30% - 40% of their time in the classroom for lectures and chalk talks. The rest of the time will be spent practicing skills tought in the classroom. Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Boat parts, rigging and terminology
  • Safety
  • Understanding wind and how sails work
  • Steering
  • Basic sail trim
  • Right of way rules
  • Knots
  • Docking

**There are no prerequisites for this class.

  • Beginner Keelboat Sailing - $375 / person
